SteelAsia is leading decarbonization in the steel industry globally.
SteelAsia has one of the greenest rebar mills in the world. DNV (Det Norske Veritas) verified in an independent assurance engagement the carbon footprints for rebar and billet produced at SteelAsia Calaca. The Norwegian firm verified that the CO2 emissions intensity per ton of crude steel produced is 0.28 tons for Scopes 1, 2 and 3. This presents a striking contrast to the 2.32 tons of CO2 per ton crude steel average generated by conventional steelmaking (Blast Furnace – Basic Oxygen Furnace technology), where CO2 emissions from SteelAsia Calaca Works is nearly 90% lower.
SteelAsia produces green steel in its mill in Calaca, Batangas through low CO2 processes—100% scrap recycling (Scrap-Electric Arc Furnace technology) combined with 100% renewable energy.
Future steel plant projects of the company will be modeled after SteelAsia Calaca. SteelAsia is installing Green Steel plants for new steel products in Batangas, Quezon, Davao City and Tarlac in the next few years. Read more about the company’s green steel strategy.
Moody’s rated SteelAsia with a “Very Good” SQS2 Sustainability Quality Score or the company’s green steel strategy and Sustainable Finance Framework.
